At GVO we utilize both surgical and non-surgical options to provide comprehensive care for:

Orthopedic Trauma and Fracture Care

Every injury is different and having an experienced team who can make the right decisions about your care is key to recovery. The team at GVO specializes in:

  • Early stabilization of fractures
  • Fractures of the arm, leg and joints
  • Tendon injuries
  • Ligament reconstruction and repair
  • Dislocations
  • Distal nerve repair
  • Partial amputations
  • Nail bed repair
  • Crush injuries
  • Lacerations

ACL injuries can be tough and usually require surgery. A new technology at GVO provides patients with an option other than ACL reconstruction. The BEAR® Implant facilitates healing of the torn ACL and does not require a second surgical wound site to remove a healthy tendon from another part of the leg.

Pediatric Orthopedic Care

Children and adolescents are still growing and developing, and their injuries often require treatment that differs from that of an adult. Dr. Blake Clifton is fellowship trained in orthopedics and sports medicine for both children and adults. He understands the differences and has the expertise to ensure your child receives comprehensive and individualized care governed by age-appropriate treatment plans.

Total Joint Replacement

Our comprehensive total joint program offers shoulder, hip, and knee replacements.

Total joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a metal, plastic, or ceramic device called a prosthesis. The prosthesis is designed to replicate the movement of a normal, healthy joint.

For most patients, total joint replacements are outpatient procedures, but some people prefer to stay overnight and receive extra support. At Gunnison Valley Health we can accommodate both without transporting you outside of the valley.

Robotic-Assisted Knee Replacement Surgery

Our total joint program utilizes Zimmer Biomet’s ROSA® Knee System. The ROSA® Knee System seamlessly blends advanced robotic technology with top-notch knee implants to empower our surgeons in personalizing total joint surgical procedures for our patients. This remarkable system is designed to assist in total knee replacement surgery, offering crucial features such as precise bone resections and real-time assessment of soft tissues for optimal implant positioning during surgery. ROSA® Knee also provides invaluable data to guide our surgeons in complex decision-making. By harnessing computer and software technology, it grants our surgical team unprecedented control and flexibility, ultimately resulting in greater precision during procedures.

Sports Medicine

Our sports medicine providers offer medical care, treatment and rehabilitation plans for professional athletes, recreational athletes and everyone in between. Because GVO is a part of the local healthcare system, our patients can easily access a comprehensive array of services including physical and occupational therapy, concussion treatment and rehabilitation and sports physicals with a board-certified pediatrician.

Osteoporosis & Bone Health Clinic

Osteoporosis is a silent but serious disease that weakens bones, making people more prone to fractures. People may not know they have osteoporosis until a fracture occurs. At our clinic, we are committed to promoting bone health, detecting osteoporosis early and limiting its progression.

Non-surgical options for treatment of sprains, strains, torn ligaments and osteoarthritis.

When surgery isn’t the right option, the providers at GVO utilize non-surgical treatments to support healing and recovery.

This technique uses a patient’s own blood to help the body heal damaged tissue. Using PRP injections our doctors can target the damaged area with the goal of shortening healing time, improving function and relieving pain. PRP is extremely effective in the treatment of chronic tendon injuries and arthritis. Additionally, it is also used with success in the treatment of acute sports injuries, such as ligament and muscle injuries.

This technique provides long lasting and effective pain relief for conditions such as osteoarthritis of the knee. Through a procedure known as visco-supplementation we can inject a dose of hyaluronic acid into the knee joint. Hyaluronic acid serves as a lubricant to enable bones to move smoothly over each other and as a shock absorber for joints; it occurs naturally and is found in the synovial (joint) fluid. Additional benefits include the ability of injections to stimulate the body to produce more of its own hyaluronic acid, pain relief and significant inflammation reduction.

This treatment helps decrease inflammatory reactions around tendons, ligaments and in joints. We use corticosteroid injections to deliver a high dose of medication directly to the affected area. The injection can help to relieve pain and swelling caused by the inflammation of tendons, knees, shoulders or hips that result from injuries and other inflammatory reactions.
